I have over 15 years of experience in research, admininistration and communications. I am skilled at facilitating and coordinating complex, interdisciplinary research projects and educational programs. I am an experienced grant writer, bringing in almost $8 million in federal and private funding to the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. I have worked as a journalist, scientific writer and editor. I have strong leadership and management abilities that lead to the successful development and implemenation of health and education programs. While directing the Office of Global Health (2003-11) I directed communications initiatives that lead to higher profile recognition for global health at UNC; created a faculty seed grant program that brought in an additional $1.7 million in faculty-led external funding; raised approximately $450,000 in student fellowship support; managed an office budget and grants totaling over $500k annually; and mentored students and staff for careers in public health. Prior to directing the OGH, I lead the Office of Research in the School for 6 years. I currently co-chair the Professional Development and Engagment Committe of the Triangle Global Health Consortium.
