Ms. Sheila Higgins RN BSN MPH COHN-S served nine years active duty as a Nurse Corps Officer, US Navy. In 1990 she transferred to the Naval Reserve and attended UNC Chapel Hill School of Public Health and was awarded an MPH in 1992 in Public Health Nursing, concentration Occupational Health. From 1992 to 2004 she served as the Occupational Health Services Manager, United Parcel Service, Raleigh, NC while concurrently finishing her military service in the Naval Reserve, retiring in 2002. From 2004 to present she has served as the State Occupational Health Nurse Consultant and Project Director of Occupational Health Surveillance, Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch, NC Division of Public Health in Raleigh, NC. Activities include providing consultation services to occupational health nurses throughout the state and overseeing federally-funded population based occupational surveillance programs. Her current focus is compiling occupational health indicators for the state and conducting acute pesticide-related injury and illness surveillance.
