|HB Housing and Residency Resources|
Chapel Hill and its surrounding area boast abundant, affordable housing opportunities. Most HB students live off-campus in complexes or houses located adjacent to the free bus routes throughout Chapel Hill and Carrboro. On-campus graduate student housing is also available.
On-campus graduate housing
Housing and Residential Education at UNC offers apartment style housing for graduate students (Odum Village Apartments) and families (Baity Hill Student Family Housing).
Students new to the area are quite successful finding off-campus housing through various methods. To assist with the process, HB Student Services has compiled a guide to the surrounding area and transportation options; definitely check it out!
Carolina's student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel, maintains Heels Housing, an interactive site of Chapel Hill area apartment complexes by distance from the Pit at UNC, monthly rental rates, number of bedrooms/baths and square footage.

Establishing NC residency for tuition purposes (VERY IMPORTANT)
Incoming students who plan to apply for resident tuition must have live in North Carolina for 12 consecutive months and establish a domicile here through proper identification (e.g. NC license, registration, voter registration). The Department highly recommends moving to the area in early August in order to secure the documents; it is critical to obtain the documents before the beginning of the semester or your application will be denied. Please read more about residency below:
