Baity Air Engineering Laboratory

at UNC Chapel Hill

The Baity Air Engineering Laboratory is one of the premier laboratories of its kind in the country.  Research work under way in Baity focuses on sources of airborne contaminants, methods to measure contaminant concentrations, and engineering methods for contaminant control.  This work finds application in the fields of environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, air pollution control, and aerosol science.  The Baity Air Engineering Laboratory houses a 2000 ft2 high bay for testing air pollution control equipment, a 16 ft2 wind tunnel, fans capable of moving 10,000 cfm, an aerosol physics laboratory, a chemistry laboratory, and office space for Baity staff and students.  Baity Lab is located in its own building adjacent to the UNC School of Public Health.  UNC faculty who serve as principal investigators for Baity research are Professors Michael Flynn and David Leith.
